What to Do

Umeda Sky Building

The twin-tower building with floating garden observatory offers 360-degree city views. The escalator ride between towers is an experience itself. Best at sunset.

Getting There

From Kansai International Airport (KIX)

Recommended (Mid-range): Take the 🔵 JR Haruka Limited Express directly to Osaka Station in approximately 45–50 minutes. Note that the Haruka arrives at the new underground platforms (Umekita area) of Osaka Station. Trains depart from the station connected to Terminal 1; Terminal 2 passengers must take the free shuttle bus to Terminal 1 first. Budget: The JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service runs directly to Osaka Station in approximately 65–75 minutes at a lower fare. Premium: Airport Limousine Buses drop off at Herbis Osaka or the New Hankyu Hotel in Umeda in approximately 60–75 minutes.

From Osaka Itami Airport (ITM)

Recommended (Mid-range): Take the Airport Limousine Bus to Osaka Station (stopping at Herbis Osaka or New Hankyu Hotel) in approximately 30 minutes. This is the most convenient option for travelers with luggage. Budget: Take the Osaka Monorail to Hotarugaike Station, then transfer to the 🟤 Hankyu Takarazuka Line to Osaka-Umeda Station in approximately 30–40 minutes total.

From Major Stations

  • From Shin-Osaka Station: Take the JR Kyoto Line (local or rapid) one stop to Osaka Station (approximately 4 minutes). Alternatively, take the 🟠 Osaka Metro Midosuji Line to Umeda Station (approximately 6 minutes).
  • From Kyoto Station: Take the JR Special Rapid Service to Osaka Station (approximately 29 minutes). Alternatively, take the 🟤 Hankyu Kyoto Line from Kyoto-Kawaramachi to Osaka-Umeda Station (approximately 45 minutes).
  • From Namba Station: Take the 🟠 Osaka Metro Midosuji Line directly to Umeda Station (approximately 8 minutes).

Local Access

The Umeda area is a massive transit complex connecting several stations via underground passages: JR Osaka Station, Hankyu Osaka-Umeda Station, Hanshin Osaka-Umeda Station, and three subway stations (Umeda on the 🟠 Midosuji Line, Higashi-Umeda on the Tanimachi Line, and Nishi-Umeda on the Yotsubashi Line). IC cards such as ICOCA, Suica, and PASMO are accepted on all trains and buses in the Kansai region.
