Getting There
Starting Point
This itinerary begins in Naha, the capital city and transportation hub of Okinawa’s main island. All travelers will arrive via Naha Airport (OKA), which connects the island to mainland Japan and international destinations.
From Naha Airport (OKA)
Recommended (Mid-range): Take the Yui Rail (Okinawa Urban Monorail) directly from the airport station to Kencho-mae Station (near Kokusai Dori) in approximately 15 minutes. The monorail connects the airport to the city center efficiently, avoiding road traffic. Premium/Flexible: If you plan to drive immediately, take the free shuttle bus from the airport terminal to your designated rental car agency. Budget: Local buses connect the airport to the Naha Bus Terminal in approximately 20–30 minutes, though times vary significantly with traffic.
Getting Around & Useful Passes
Okinawa has limited rail service compared to mainland Japan. The Yui Rail serves only Naha City. For a 3-day itinerary covering northern attractions like the Churaumi Aquarium, a rental car is the most efficient and recommended mode of transport.
If you prefer public transit, the Yui Rail offers 1-Day and 2-Day open tickets for unlimited rides within Naha. While the local IC card is OKICA, nationwide IC cards (Suica, PASMO, ICOCA) are accepted on the Yui Rail and most major route buses. For long-distance travel without a car, Highway Buses and Airport Limousine Buses are available from the Naha Bus Terminal.
