Getting There
From Naha Airport (OKA)
Recommended (Mid-range): Take the Yanbaru Express Bus directly from the domestic terminal bus stops to the “Kinen Koen Mae” (Ocean Expo Park) stop. The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours and requires no transfers. Premium: Renting a car is the most flexible way to explore Okinawa. Drive north via the Okinawa Expressway to the Kyoda IC, then follow signs to the aquarium; the drive takes approximately 2 hours depending on traffic. Alternative: The Airport Limousine Bus (E Route) also serves the aquarium directly but typically requires purchasing a ticket at the arrival lobby desk before boarding.
From Naha City
- From Naha Bus Terminal: Take Highway Bus 117 (Direct) or Bus 111 to Nago Bus Terminal, then transfer to local bus lines (65 or 66) to reach the park. Total travel time is approximately 3 hours.
- From Kencho-mae (Prefectural Office): The Yanbaru Express Bus stops near the Ryubo Department Store, offering a direct connection from the city center to the aquarium in approximately 2.5 hours.
Local Access
Churaumi Aquarium is located within the Ocean Expo Park on the Motobu Peninsula. From the “Kinen Koen Mae” bus stop, it is approximately a 10-minute walk through the park grounds to the aquarium entrance. Note: The Yui Rail (Monorail) only serves Naha City and does not reach the aquarium. While the local IC card is OKICA, and the Monorail accepts Suica/PASMO, some rural buses may only accept OKICA or cash. It is highly recommended to carry cash for bus fares.
