Getting There

Starting Point

This itinerary begins at Kyoto Station, the central transportation hub for the region. From Osaka Station: Take the JR Special Rapid Service (JR Kyoto Line) to Kyoto Station in approximately 29 minutes. From Shin-Osaka Station: Take the JR Kyoto Line (approximately 25 minutes) or the Tokaido Shinkansen (approximately 15 minutes). From Tokyo: Take the Tokaido Shinkansen Nozomi to Kyoto Station in approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

From Kansai International Airport (KIX)

Recommended (Premium): Take the 🔵 JR Haruka Limited Express directly to Kyoto Station in approximately 75–80 minutes. The train station is connected to Terminal 1; passengers arriving at Terminal 2 must take the free shuttle bus to the station first. This is the fastest and most comfortable option and is covered by the JR Pass.

Mid-range: Airport Limousine Buses depart from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, arriving at the Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit in approximately 85–100 minutes. This is a convenient option if you have heavy luggage and wish to avoid navigating train stations.

From Osaka Itami Airport (ITM)

Recommended (Mid-range): The Airport Limousine Bus is the most direct route, reaching Kyoto Station in approximately 50–55 minutes. Alternatively, take the Osaka Monorail to Hotarugaike, transfer to the 🟤 Hankyu Takarazuka Line to Osaka-Umeda, and transfer to the JR Kyoto Line (approximately 60–70 minutes total).

Useful Passes

For this one-day itinerary, the Subway & Bus One-Day Pass is highly recommended for unlimited travel on Kyoto City buses and subways. For general transit between cities, use an IC card like ICOCA (Kansai region) or Suica/PASMO (compatible nationwide) for seamless payment on all trains and buses.
