Getting There
From Kansai International Airport (KIX)
Recommended (Premium): Take the 🔵 JR Haruka Limited Express from Terminal 1 directly to Kyoto Station in approximately 75–80 minutes. This is the fastest and most comfortable option. Budget: Airport Limousine Buses serve both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, connecting to Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit in approximately 85–100 minutes depending on highway traffic.
From Osaka Itami Airport (ITM)
Recommended (Mid-range): Take the Airport Limousine Bus directly to Kyoto Station in approximately 50–55 minutes. This is generally preferred over train travel, which requires multiple transfers (Monorail to Hankyu) that can be difficult with luggage.
From Major Stations
- From Kyoto Station: Take Kyoto City Bus #206 from the main bus terminal to the Gion bus stop (approximately 20–30 minutes). Note: Traffic in Kyoto can be heavy; for a traffic-free route, take the JR Nara Line to Tofukuji Station, then transfer to the 🟢 Keihan Main Line to Gion-Shijo Station.
- From Osaka-Umeda Station: Take the 🟤 Hankyu Kyoto Line (Limited Express) to Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station in approximately 45 minutes. Exit and walk across the Shijo Bridge to enter Gion.
- From Yodoyabashi Station (Osaka): Take the 🟢 Keihan Main Line (Limited Express) directly to Gion-Shijo Station in approximately 50 minutes.
Local Access
The heart of the district is located immediately outside Gion-Shijo Station (served by the 🟢 Keihan Line). Alternatively, it is a 5-minute walk across the river from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station (served by the 🟤 Hankyu Line). IC cards such as ICOCA, Suica, and PASMO are accepted on all trains and buses in the Kansai region.
