Getting There

From New Chitose Airport (CTS)

Recommended (Mid-range): Take the JR Rapid Airport train from New Chitose Airport Station (located on the B1F floor of the domestic terminal) directly to JR Sapporo Station in approximately 37–40 minutes. This is the fastest option, with departures roughly every 12 minutes. Passengers arriving at the International Terminal must walk through the connecting passage to the Domestic Terminal to access the station.

Budget/Convenience: Airport Limousine Buses (Chuo Bus or Hokuto Kotsu) serve the airport terminals and connect to major hotels in central Sapporo and the Susukino district in approximately 60–80 minutes. While slower than the train, this option is convenient for travelers with heavy luggage staying at specific hotels.

From Other Major Hubs

  • From Hakodate: Take the Limited Express Hokuto to Sapporo Station in approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes.
  • From Asahikawa: Take the Limited Express Lilac or Kamui to Sapporo Station in approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.
  • From Tokyo (by Train): Take the JR Tohoku/Hokkaido Shinkansen to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, then transfer to the Limited Express Hokuto to Sapporo. The total journey takes approximately 8 hours. Flying is generally recommended for time efficiency.

Local Access

Sapporo Station is the central transport hub, served by JR Hokkaido lines and the Sapporo Municipal Subway. The city is navigated easily via three subway lines: the Namboku Line 🟢, Tozai Line 🟠, and Toho Line 🔵. The Sapporo Streetcar loops through the southwestern part of the city. For winter travel, the Chi-Ka-Ho underground walkway connects Sapporo Station to Odori Park and Susukino, allowing pedestrians to walk between major districts without exposure to the elements. IC cards like Kitaca, Suica, and PASMO are accepted on JR trains, subways, and streetcars.
