Getting There

From New Chitose Airport (CTS)

Recommended (Mid-range): Take the JR Rapid Airport train from the airport station (B1F, serving Domestic and International terminals) to Sapporo Station in approximately 37–40 minutes. From Sapporo, transfer to the JR Limited Express Lilac or Kamui to Asahikawa Station (approximately 85 minutes). Finally, transfer to the JR Furano Line to reach Biei Station in approximately 30–40 minutes. The total journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Alternative: Travelers flying domestically may choose Asahikawa Airport (AKJ), which is connected to Biei by the Lavender-go bus in approximately 15 minutes.

From Major Stations

  • From Sapporo Station: Take the JR Limited Express Lilac or Kamui to Asahikawa Station, then transfer to the JR Furano Line for Biei (approximately 2 to 2.5 hours total). During the summer season, the Limited Express Furano Lavender Express may operate directly from Sapporo to Biei; check official JR schedules for availability.
  • From Asahikawa Station: Take the JR Furano Line (local train) directly to Biei Station in approximately 30–40 minutes.

Local Access

Biei Station is the central hub for the area. The famous scenic spots, such as the Patchwork Road and Blue Pond, are spread out across the countryside. Recommended: Renting a car is the most efficient way to explore the hills. Alternatively, electric rental bicycles are available near the station, and seasonal sightseeing buses (Biei View Bus) operate during peak travel periods. Note that while IC cards like Kitaca and Suica are accepted in the Sapporo area, the JR Furano Line and local buses often require paper tickets or cash.
