Getting There

From Kansai International Airport (KIX)

Recommended (Mid-range): Take the 🔵 JR Haruka Limited Express from Terminal 1 directly to Kyoto Station in approximately 75 minutes. From there, transfer to the JR Sagano Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station (approximately 15 minutes). Budget: Airport Limousine Buses serve Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, connecting to Kyoto Station in approximately 85–100 minutes.

From Osaka Itami Airport (ITM)

Recommended (Mid-range): Take the Airport Limousine Bus from the North or South Terminal to Kyoto Station in approximately 50–55 minutes. From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano Line to Arashiyama. Alternatively, take the Osaka Monorail and transfer to the 🟤 Hankyu Line to reach Arashiyama via Katsura Station.

From Major Stations

  • From Kyoto Station: Take the JR Sagano Line (San-in Main Line) to Saga-Arashiyama Station. This is the fastest route, taking approximately 15 minutes.
  • From Osaka-Umeda Station: Take the 🟤 Hankyu Kyoto Line to Katsura Station, then transfer to the Hankyu Arashiyama Line to Arashiyama Station (approximately 45–50 minutes).
  • From Shijo-Kawaramachi (Kyoto Central): Take the 🟤 Hankyu Kyoto Line to Katsura Station and transfer to the Arashiyama Line (approximately 20–25 minutes).

Local Access

The Bamboo Grove is accessible from three main stations. JR Saga-Arashiyama Station is convenient for JR Pass holders (approximately 10-minute walk). The Randen Arashiyama Station (Keifuku Electric Railroad) is closest to the main street (approximately 5-minute walk). Hankyu Arashiyama Station is located across the river and requires a scenic walk across Togetsukyo Bridge (approximately 15–20 minutes). IC cards like ICOCA, Suica, and PASMO are accepted on all trains.
